What is the Import Export Code (IEC)?

IEC is the abbreviated form of Import Export Code. Every person who desires to undertake the import and export activity in India is required to obtain this license. However, it is not mandatory for the importers to do so. One important thing to be noted here is that if the importers do not obtain the IEC they won’t be able to claim the benefits also.

What is the Import Export Code (IEC)?

What are the documents required for obtaining a duplicate IEC?

To obtain duplicate IEC an applicant is required to file Duly filled application form along with application fee of Rs.200/ an affidavit on stamp paper of Rs.100/- duly notarized.

How will I get to know the status of my application?

You can check the status of your application status on the website under “status of the application for licensing and registration”. This could be available only after receipt of hard copies of the application in the concerned Board’s office. The status of the application would be changing based on the processing of such application. In case the status show “Certificate issued” you can get the dispatch details from the Remark column under ‘search’.

Does government departments also require the IEC code?

No, the government departments are not required to obtain the Import Export Code as they are provided with the fixed number which they can quote for undertaking the required transactions.

Do we require the renewal of the IEC?

The IEC number once received is valid for lifetime and no renewal is required to be obtained for it.

Do we require separate IEC for our different units?

No, you don’t require separate IEC for your different units and a single IEC can be used for every unit of the business this is because the PAN card is used to Link the IEC for multiple units.
